Blog: Finding Your Inner Voice

Hi there! As my first blog, I want to say hello and welcome. I’m so glad we’ve found each other in this small corner of the internet. My hope is that this space will allow you to learn more about who I am, as well as give you some practical tools to use in your everyday life.

A while back I was reading Parker Palmer’s book, Let Your Life Speak, and I loved his perspective on listening to the most true and authentic voice within us that is guiding us toward our vocation. I believe a “vocation” is anything that embodies how we find meaning, purpose, and use our gifts to show up this world. Palmer asks:

“Is the life I am living the same as the life that wants to live in me?”

This is such a beautiful question. Is the life I am choosing to live the life that radiates from my most true and authentic self?

Palmer also says: “Before you tell your life what truths and values you have decided to live up to, let your life tell you what truths you embody, what values you represent.”

So often we live with a mask on, a facade that begs to live up to the expectations of our parents, friends, and community. This mask gives us a sense of false security, success, and worthiness. This is so human and normal and it only leaves us treading water, grasping to feel loved and accepted for who we actually are while continuously feeling like a disappointment.

The answer to your most true inner voice can only come from within. When you listen for your most authentic inner voice, stay mindful of this question: “Is the life I am living the same as the life that wants to live in me?

-When do you feel the most alive, connected, and authentic?

-Who are you with?

-What keeps you from moving toward this more often?

-How does your body feel?

Now keep doing that. This is a huge step toward living a life that is aligned with the inner voice that has been guiding you all along.
